A Bit About Me

Sustainability consultant

  • LinkedIn

Hugo is a strategic sustainability and impact leader from 'Down South', as he likes to remind us, who works closely with our partners to develop sustainably meaningful and commercially valuable strategies to organisational challenges.

Hugo has a technical and applied grasp of a range of standards and frameworks that Proxima employs across our work. In particular, the GHG Protocol, the Future-Fit Business Benchmark, BCorp, ISO standards, and non-financial reporting standards, like GRI, <IR>, and the Aotearoa New Zealand Climate Standards.

Hugo is currently based out of London, where he is spearheading impact strategies with a focus on the sports ecosystem. Hugo received his training from the University of Otago where he studied law, economics, and (apparently) surfing. Before collaborating with Proxima, Hugo was the sustainability manager for Manukora, and a policy and regulations coordinator at Auckland University of Technology, where he worked on integrating sustainability into the curriculum architecture.

Things you should know about Hugo:

  • Believes that the value of an idea is only as good as how well it is communicated.

  • Convinced that sport is the most under-utilised vehicle for addressing the most pressing challenges of our time.

  • Convinced that high-performing teams start with nurturing high-performing people.

  • Effective public speaker.  Awful public singer.
