Building a super-sustainable home in Ohakune

Proxima Executive Director Calum Revfem explains his plan to put theory into practice and build a better, more sustainable family home at no extra cost than a conventionally built home.

I’m going to be putting theory into practice by working with a conventional builder to build a near-passive sustainable family home at the same price as an off the plan standard home.  And, I’m doing it in Ohakune which is 600 meters above sea level and has one of the coolest urban climates in New Zealand.  The home will aim to achieve an energy rating three times higher than the building code (H1) requirements and will educate the builder and local community in healthier and more sustainable new housing options. I’ll be keeping this story updated with the challenges, choices and learnings as we go, so watch this space….
